Self-awareness is the foundation of emotional intelligence. Are you aware of the emotions???
This self-awareness begins with mapping and understanding your emotions, and the other qualities that makes up emotional intelligence –self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills- enable the best leaders to raise their own and their follower’s performance to a higher level. Fortunately, these attributes can be strengthened over time. The key is to recognise that they are crucial and identify which need work. Self-awareness and self-regulation are especially important. How we respond to the many feelings we practice throughout the day affects our decision making, make or break relationships, prestige, and important deals.
Emotionally intelligent employees create a positive and productive environment to work. They try to understand situations from others perspective and maintains healthy relationship with others. They are more adaptive to the changing needs, are honest and behave appropriately in critical situations. All these factors help in accomplishing organisational success.
1. Self Awareness
If you are self-aware you always know how you feel, and you know how your emotions and actions can affect people around you. When you experience anger or other strong emotions slow down to examine, find the reason. along with this if you are spending just few minutes each day writing down your thoughts and emotions, this can improve your degree of self-awareness.
2. Empathy
Majority of top performers in an organisation have high emotional intelligence. The important attributes, empathy and emotional intelligence are self-discipline, optimism, competitiveness, determination and caring. Together these factors are the base of trust.
3. Motivation
Self-motivated leaders work consistently towards their goals, so that they can deliver quality work.
When we talk about motivation, we should think about how we motivate others, ie. sharing positive energy to other members in a group. It’s purely based on a deep level of truly what we want.
4. Self-Regulation
This is the ability to think before your actions and words. In addition to this EI demands you, to be able to manage and regulate your emotions. It simply means wait for the right time, right place and right situation to express your feelings, not like hide your true feelings. Developing Self-regulation skills will improve your ability to face difficult situations.
5. Social Skills
Freely interact with others is another important aspect of emotional intelligence. Having good social skills also results the ability to control emotions. It results cooperation, self-management & relationship management.
